Happy New Year!

Sunrise in Oil, 24x30 cm, on canvas
I wish all of you blogger friends and visitors of this blog a blessed and healthy 2016! Good luck for the New Year and may you all have a very successful creative times ahead.

I finished this painting last November. It is one of the two oil paintings I painted as a practice in using oil paints. I like using oil paints but I could not take the smell of the mediums that we used during the practice. I might try next time the water mixible oil paints.

Oil painting study

Two weeks ago, I joined with other members of our painting club to try oil paints for the first time. With my goal of just knowing how oil paints work, I chose a simple image to paint. So, the above painting is my very first oil painting. In the original, the small trees are much darker, which is supposed to be so as in the reference image I used. I don't know why they are much lighter in this photograph. Right now I am busy  with my second oil painting study - just to be more familiar with using the paints.

Taal Lake Sunrise

This is an early morning scene from Taal lake in Batangas province in the Philippines. What is really amazing is that a volcano is standing within the lake, which is considered as the smallest active volcano perhaps in the world. Many tourists visited the place to enjoy the sceneries there and have some swim in the lake.
