According to Dutch-English dictionary, the word 'hunebed' means megalithic tomb. Based on some literatures, the presence of these tombs in the northern part of the Netherlands made people wonder where those big stones came from. Some reported that they came from Scandinavia. For some history of the 'hunebedden' in the Netherlands, visit http://hunebedden.nl/engels.htm and http://www.hunebeddenwijzer.nl/.
The above painted 'hunebed' is in Havelterberg in the city of Havelte. It is only about half of the long line of big stones I saw last year.
This painting is in watercolor, and the size is 30x40 cm.

Windmill and sunflowers
This is an impression on the windmill and sunflowers that I had seen last summer (2011) in Nuenen, The Netherlands. Nuenen is called by its people as 'Van Gogh village'. Here are a few pictures of the place. This is in watercolor on 300 gms cold pressed Canson Montval watercolor paper.

Sunset
I photographed this sunset early in the evening last summer. I was standing then at the parking area somewhere in Blauwe Hand looking over at Belterwijde lake. These places are between Giethoorn and Belt-Schutsloot in the northern part of the Netherlands. This small painting is in acrylic on cotton canvas. Watercolor is my favorite medium; however, sometime I felt I want to have some variety that is why once in a while I also try to use acrylic or pastel.

Nuenen's little church
![]() |
Watercolor, 24x30 cm |
This is a Dutch reform little church in Nuenen, The Netherlands. I was there last August this year and took some photographs of the church and other sceneries in the city. The building was founded in 1824; and the father of Vincent van Gogh was a pastor here from 1882-1885. Vincent had himself painted this building more than once. Check http://www.nuenen.nl/ for more on the history of the city and van Gogh family. While entering the city, a visitor will be welcome by a board with a written ad "van Gogh village." Indeed if a visitor will follow the designated 'walking path,' he/she will see not only green sceneries but also places where Vincent painted some of his famous paintings. See below some photos from the city.

Outing at Belt-Schutsloot
Last week, my painting group had an outing in Belt-Schutsloot, a popular watersport and camping destination in Holland. Every summer one member of the group spends her time there together with her family. They have a motor boat and a camping cottage there. She always likes to invite the group to have picnic together. Last week was my first time to be with them since I joined the group just recently. We were fortunate that the weather last Wednesday cooperated with our outing business. We sailed on two motor boats along the canals, and later on the open lake. Here are some pictures of the landscape of the area where we were.
